Material Testing

Introduction

Arab Geotech for Soil Investigation Laboratories LLC is equipped to undertake a broad range of soil, aggregate, rock, asphalt, concrete and steel testing for engineering projects.

We provide material testing services for accurate determination of representative in-situ material properties, proper selection and design of construction materials, and quality control of construction materials and their compliance with design specifications.

Soil which is responsible for allowing the stresses coming from the structure should be well tested to give excellent performance. If soil is not tested correctly, then the whole building or structure is damaged or collapsed or leaned like leaning tower of Pisa. So, soil inspection or testing is the first step to proceed any construction. Various tests on soil are conducted to decide the quality of soil for building construction. Some tests are conducted in laboratory and some are in the field.

Aggregates are one of the fundamental materials used in the Construction Industry. Aggregates can be obtained from a variety of sources; from natural sands and gravels of both land and sea origin to crushed rock and artificially produced materials. They can be used in many ways; as major components of concrete, mortar or bituminous bound materials, as sub-base or capping, or for more specialized uses such as track ballast or filter media. All aggregate testing is undertaken by Arab Geotech's experienced technical staff operating from our well equipped laboratory. Arab Geotech also offer a thorough on-site source assessment and sampling service.

Concrete is the most popular artificial material on Earth. Unlike aluminum, steel or plastic, the word "concrete" doesn't refer to a single material. It can be a number of substances that combine rocks or gravel with some kind of adhesive material. Various tests on concrete are necessary to be performed for the following purposes: A- To detect the variation of quality of concrete being supplied for a given specification. B- To establish whether the concrete has attained a sufficient strength for the intended purpose or concrete has set sufficiently for stripping, stressing, de-propping, opening to traffic, etc.

There are so many tests available for testing different qualities of concrete. Different tests give results for their respective quality of concrete. Thus it is not possible to conduct all the tests as it involves cost and time. Thus, it is very important to be sure about purpose of quality tests for concrete. The most important test for quality check of concrete is to detect the variation of concrete quality with the given specification and mix design during concrete mixing and placement. It will ensure that the right quality of concrete is being placed at site.
